This Quarantine season has been rough for all, that’s why I’ve been keeping things simple. Your wine isn’t the only one who needs air.
[Pictured above] I’ve been using a cheap Walmart table, a tablecloth that I found in our closet, and mason jar as a decanter. Don’t overthink the decanter. It’s the function that matters this COVID season.
Typically, on the last Friday of the month, I have a bottle of wine with one of my colleagues, and we take turns selecting the wine. Due to pandemic circumstances, Kelsey took his place. This is a great way to taste different wine, especially wine you may not have chosen yourself. Without a wine friend, you’re an alcoholic, not a hobbyist.
Kelsey chose a 2016 Campo Alle Comete Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT with the cute seahorse, and I decided on a 2011 Chateau Phelan Segur Frank Phelan Bordeaux.
Kelsey is Italian and prefers big and bold yet drinkable wine which sums up a lot of Italian wine and people. This cab sav is precisely that, an “I’ll have another glass” type of wine. As for me, French wine is near and dear to my heart because that’s where my wine journey started, a cabernet franc in Djibouti, Africa, but that’s another story for another time. This was a perfect way to home my senses.
Quicktip: blends from Bordeaux are usually earthier than New World blends (e.g. California)
